Announcement for Overdrive and Libby users

Upcoming Change to How Patrons Receive Books on Hold.

For the past few years, eBooks and audiobooks placed on hold have been automatically checked out when they became available — provided the user had fewer than three items currently checked out. This is changing on March 2, 2020.
Items will no longer be automatically checked out to patons’ digital accounts. Instead, the user will receive an email OR Libby app notification on their reading device (phone, tablet) about the available hold.
Users will have three (3) days to take action on that hold. The action can either be:
Manually checking out the hold within three (3) days.Deliver it later — Allowing the patron to assign a suspension period while maintaining their old on the waiting list.If no action is taken by the patron, there is a one-time courtesy hold suspension of seven (7) days. If no action is taken the second time, the hold will be cancelled for that patron and the item will move to the next person waiting for the title.
We will continue to share information as we learn more about the new feature from the vendor.

Thanks to Bobbi at the NH State Library for the information!
