The Friends of the Canaan Town Library (FOCTL) was founded in 2012 at the completion of the Library renovation. We have been immensely successful in raising money to fund Library wishes over and above the taxpayer funded budget items. The FOCTL funds museum passes, New York Times digital subscription (new!), wireless hot spots, holiday gift books for Canaan’s kids, a community herb garden, and the new outdoor book drop!
As the FOCTL leadership looks to the future, our reality is that we are getting older, moving away, and not as “robust” as we once were. We need to secure our successors now in order to keep this valuable organization alive and the momentum of support going forward. We need New Friends willing to become active members. We need people with fresh ideas! We need people who can donate time for Library events like book sales, Christmas in Canaan, and Meetinghouse Readings, among others.
Becoming a community volunteer as a Friend of the Canaan Town Library is an opportunity to:
- Support our local Library
- Learn how a non-profit organization works
- Practice or polish writing and communication skills
- Use your social media and technology skills
- Have fun planning events
- Get to know your neighbors!
The Friends of the Canaan Town Library is a registered 501c3 organization whose purpose is to assist in development, delivery and funding of Canaan Town Library services and programs.
