Happy New Year!

Congratulations to Moriah Harris for winning the library’s 2nd annual essay contest.  This year’s theme was “What does being green mean to you?”  Here is an excerpt from Moriah’s   winning entry.

“You can also “be green” by saving electricity.  You can do this by turning off lights, not using a lot of hot water, and trying not to use machines very often that use electricity.  To make electricity people sometimes use natural resources like coal and natural gas.  We are using these two resources too fast.  If we keep using them too fast there might not be any more left to generate more electricity.  That is why using solar panels, wind mills, tidal dams, and Geothermal turbines is a really good idea.  For these machines all you have to do is buy them and they will pay for themselves in a little while.  You will get free energy, and you will help the Earth stay green by not using its natural resources. . . .  You can help the environment by not polluting, saving trees, recycling, and saving electricity.  This is just a small list of all the ways you can help the environment stay green.  It is not that hard to help the environment stay green, especially if a lot of people are working together.”

Way to go Moriah!
