Canaan Town Library Technology Usage Agreement

Acceptance of the conditions below is a requirement for access to the Canaan Town Library computers and computer network. If a patron is under 18 years of age, that patron's parent or guardian must sign this document.

Conditions for Use of Canaan Town Library Network
I understand that the Canaan Town Library reserves the right to view any material stored on library computers, and will remove or restrict access to any material which the library staff believes to be unlawful, obscene, pornographic, abusive or otherwise objectionable. Hate mail, harassment, discriminatory remarks, offensive language, and other antisocial behaviors are strictly prohibited on the library's networked computer system.
I understand that although each computer user is able to store information on the networked system, files stored there are not private. Network administrators can review e-mail, file folders, and communications to maintain system integrity and to make sure that users are using the system responsibly.
I agree to not intentionally seek information, obtain copies, modify files, or passwords belonging to other users, or misrepresent other users on the network.
I understand that the Canaan Town Library makes no warranties (expressed or implied) with respect to network services or the content of any advice or information received from the networked computer system. Further, the Canaan Town Library is not responsible for unauthorized costs incurred by patrons while using the library's networked computers.
I understand that any use of the library's networked computer system for a commercial or for-profit purpose is strictly prohibited.
I understand that computer software or programs of any kind may not be loaded on any computer or on the library's computer network without the permission of a library employee.
I agree to abide by any rules and regulations involving the networked computer system that may be announced from time to time by library personnel. The library reserves the right to add or change network guidelines for safety reasons without notice.
I understand that use of Canaan Town Library computers and wireless network is a privilege that may be revoked.
I agree that I will not use Canaan Town Library computer resources unlawfully. This includes, but is not limited to, using Canaan Town Library resources to violate copyright agreements, harass others through the Internet, or exploit security holes in computers or networks.

Conditions Specific to Use of Canaan Town Library Wireless Network
I understand that the Canaan Town Library wireless network is an "open network" which means that information transmitted on this network is unencrypted and unsecured.
I further understand that connecting to the Canaan Town Library Wireless Network is at my own risk and I agree that the Canaan Town Library shall have no liability for any damages, direct or indirect, occurring as a result of the use of Canaan Town Library electronic resources.
I understand that Canaan Town Library staff do not provide any technical assistance for wireless connectivity and that I am solely responsible for connecting and configuring my own equipment.
I understand that I will be using my electronic equipment in a public area and that privacy can not be guaranteed.
I agree not to view sexually graphic and/or explicit material, as this is prohibited on Canaan Town Library computers.
I further understand that any or all activity restricted on Canaan Town Library computers is also restricted for users of the Wireless Internet Network.

As a user of the Canaan Town Library computer system, I hereby agree to comply with the policy and network guidelines, as stated above, as well as all relevant local, state, and federal laws and restrictions that apply. I understand that failure to follow these procedures may result in suspension or loss of the right to access the Internet and/or use of the Canaan Town Library's technology and may result in other legal actions. I will not hold the Canaan Town Library responsible for or legally liable for materials distributed or acquired from the Internet or network.
